THINKING OF GETTING A BULLMASTIFF?  PLEASE READ THIS

The Bullmastiff Club of SA does not recommend or endorse specific breeders. You may contact the Club Secretary  for information concerning club members who may currently have puppies for sale.

Potential buyers should excercise care when considering the purchase of a puppy, as you will be assuming responsibility for a sentient being who will depend on you for protection, care, food and shelter for many years to come. Two issues are particularly important when considering owning a Bullmastiff:

  • As a giant breed dog they are more expensive than most breeds to keep. They eat a lot and to keep them in good health they must have premium quality food. As they are potentially subject to a number of health problems, the cost of medical care must also be taken into consideration.
  • Bullmastiffs are large, incredibly strong, stubborn and wilful dogs. It is not a breed for the proverbial 'little old lady', also families with small children may not be ideal purely due to the size of the dogs vs your small child. Although they have sensitive natures and are very loving, they need an owner who understands dogs, and is physically able to excercise control if necessary
